This is the second year in a row that we’re making homemade ornaments!
It’s so much fun and so easy to do. Mason get’s a kick out of it, especially this year!
The recipe is super easy!
First combine 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of white flour and 1 cup of warm water. Add additional water and flour as necessary so that you can roll the dough into a ball and knead for about 5 minutes without it sticking to your hands!
Roll it out to about an inch thick and cut your ornaments out or make hand prints and foot prints! You’ll have to do this a couple of times!
Make holes were you can string the ornaments up and then place them on a cookie sheet and bake at 200 degrees for about an hour. You may have to do this for longer but keep a close watch on it. If you do it for too long it will start to bubble.
This is what they looked like after about 50 minutes. I watched it slowly. Mine were thick especially the hand print one so I had to cook it a little longer
Leave the ornaments to dry over night and then paint!
After the paint dries you a black sharpie to mark with the name and year of your little!
We made this one for Elena last year when I was pregnant with her so we had only just added her name this year.
I love these ornaments and can’t wait to make then again next year for Baby3!
Thanks for the tutorial! I’ve been wanting to make those & had no idea how!
LOVE THIS!! i cannot believe how easy this is!! will be making this with my girls!
This looks easy and creative. Thanks!
I love these. I might make them with my first graders as gifts for their parents!
I love the little stockings you made. I bet Mason had fun too.
We made these a few years ago and gave them as gifts, they were a big hit!
So cute!
Sooo cute! Do you have any trouble with them cracking or falling apart? I haven’t made these yet, but plan to soon this year and don’t know if I should make these (salt dough) or clay.. hmmm…
We’ve had the one for a year and neither has happened. The Elena Ornament is cracked but that’s because I baked it for way too long not due to how old it is. This year I watched it much more closely and didn’t have any cracking issues!
This looks so fun! I can’t wait until my little one is old enough to do this.
Thanks for your tutorial, they helped me figure out the best way to paint them! I’m in the process now. My recipe had terrible instructions though and they’re all cracked. I should have waited for this post. 😉
Yours turned out so cute! Mine came out a little crazy. I wonder if they aren’t cooked enough. great job!
These are so cute! I made some last year with my kids, but they didn’t turn out so well. I am pinning this, so I can try again next year. The grandparents love stuff like this!
