If there’s one thing I love it’s a round of “Reasons why my baby is crying”. It always cracks me up to hear the reasons why babies/toddlers are crying because it’s usually totally irrational. Imagine that right? Babies and Toddlers not being rational! There are so many times throughout the last 5 years that one of my kids were crying for a reason that made me throw my arms up in defeat. So many times it’s because we were trying to protect them or help them in some way. One of those moments I wrote about here.
Now that Mason is 5 he has started to pass the torch to his sister who is more than willing to keep the fire lit. She has been picking up the pace lately it seems. I’m trying my hardest to find the humor in it all. Because really that’s the only think you can do sometimes. Just laugh, try to diffuse the situation and move on.
My mom’s group and I will often share the irrational reasons our kids are crying and it’s one of my favorite things to do on my Facebook which is exactly what I did here. I think the reason I love hearing from other moms about the irrational reasons their baby is crying is because it makes me feel less alone. I’m not the only one dealing with an irrational random crying machine. These are some of my favorites from the most recent round on Facebook. I would love if you shared yours there or in the comments below!
These are all totally rational reasons to cry and freak out right!? Which one is your favorite? I think mine is the little boy who wanted to drink shampoo!
Most of these kids are toddlers and preschoolers but what about when your infant baby is crying? More often than not when they cry they’re not being irrational. There is typically a reason. Usually it’s one of a few reasons:
- They have a dirty diaper.
- They’re hungry.
- They’re tired.
- They’re gassy.
I usually address my baby crying in that exact order. First I check their diaper, then I feed them which more often than not results in them sleeping but when it doesn’t my next guess is gas. So what do I do when my baby is gassy? I have a couple of things in my arsenal.
- I massage my baby’s tummy.
- I bicycle their legs.
- I wear my baby.
- Little Remedies Gripe Water.
If the first three don’t work I reach for Little Remedies Gripe Water. It helps to calm the storm in their tummies.
Now it’s your turn! Why is your baby crying? Something irrational or a gassy belly? One is easier than the other to fix. 😉
