Boy or Girl? Old Wives Tales to Predict Gender

In just a couple of weeks we’ll FINALLY know if we’re having a boy or a girl. It feels both odd and exciting to not know who will be joining our family soon. Will it be a rambunctious little boy like Mason? Or another sassy little girl like Kyla?

Maybe it’s because I’m the oldest of seven kids with a mom who NEVER found out but I’ve always been interested in what the Old Wives Tales had to say about what you’re having. Every pregnancy so far I’ve done the Chinese Gender Chart and that’s always been fun. I’m so excited to see if it’s correct. With Kyla it depended on which version of the Chinese Gender chart that we used.

1. Carrying High or Low?

If you’re carrying high you’re apparently having a girl. Carrying low? That’s a boy!

OWT Says: I’m having a boy!

2. Heart rate.

140+ and you’re having a girl! Below 140? It’s a boy!

OWT Says: I’m having a girl! This baby has consistently been above 140. With that being said it’s typically in the 140s where both my girls have been in the 150s+

3. Sweet or Salty/Sour?

Craving sweet treats? You’re having a girl! Craving salty or sour foods? It’s a boy!

OWT Says: It’s a girl!

4. Feeling pretty or feeling ugly?

Girls steal your beauty so if you haven’t been looking all that hot, it’s a girl! Glowing? It’s a boy!

OWT Says: I’d have to go with boy on this one. It’s not like I’m gorgeous and glowing but I haven’t broken out much this pregnancy at all!

5. Morning Sickness?

Always queasy or can’t keep anything down? It’s a girl! Feeling good? It’s a boy!

OWT Says: I never threw up this pregnancy. I didn’t really throw up with any of mine but I would say that feeling of morning sickness lasted longer than it did with Mason. Just like it did with my girls so I’ll go with girl on this one.

6. Dry or Silky Smooth?

Are your hands drier than usual? According to this Old Wives’ Tale you’re having a little boy! Hands smooth? It’s a girl!

OWT Says: I don’t find my hands to be any drier than usual and my skin has remained relatively hydrated despite always forgetting to drink enough water so this Old Wives’ Tale says it’s a girl!

7. Cold Feet?

Are your feet always cold? You must be having a boy!

OWT Says: It’s a girl. My feet aren’t particularly cold. Typically if I go to bed with my socks on I end up having to take them off because I get too hot.

8. Legs?

Did your legs get large or stay in shape? If your legs are large, it’s a boy. Slim and in shape? It’s a girl!

OWT Says: I haven’t had any swelling and I can still fit into my almost knee high boots so this one predicts a girl for me!

9. Moody?

Feeling extra moody and hormonal? Apparently that means you’re having a girl.

OWT Says: I don’t feel anymore emotional than I did any other pregnancy so I’m going to throw in the towel on this one!

10. How’s your Urine looking?

Bright yellow? It’s a boy! Dull? It’s a girl!

OWT Says: I would say it’s looks bright more than anything but it’s also looked dull. Something tells me this may have to do with my hydration levels 😉 Either way I’ll say boy on this one!
