When I was pregnant with Kyla I made “Labor-Aide” to help me through labor. It tasted pretty yummy but I didn’t drink it as much as I should have instead drinking water and Recharge that my midwives provided me with. This time around I decided to skip the Labor-Aide, at least for now and instead decided to make some Peanut Butter Energy Balls. I wasn’t super hungry when I was in labor with Kyla but I knew that I needed to eat and I’m so glad I did especially while I was experiencing transition. If you’ve ever experienced transition you may know why it’s good to have something in your stomach.
What I found most appealing about Peanut Butter Energy Balls is that it’s filled with protein. On top of that it’s not something that just I will enjoy, instead the kids, B and anyone who is at the labor with us will enjoy them as well. They’re pretty much the perfect snack. We’re already half-way done with my first batch and I plan on making another batch soon since I haven’t gone into labor yet. These are so easy to put together and Kyla had a blast making them with me. She especially loved adding the honey. That girl could drink a whole bottle of honey if I let her, Mason too for that matter.
You can half the amount of chocolate chips if you don’t want too much chocolate in them but I think the chocolate adds the perfect amount of sweetness to these Peanut Butter Energy Balls. You could also consider adding a dash of cinnamon for a different flavor profile. I’m fairly positive I’ll add some to my next batch.
While these are great for when you’re in labor, they’re great for just about anything. Mason has been bringing a ball or two to school and Kyla and I have been having them for breakfast or a quick snack. Have I mentioned they’re delicious!?
