Truth be told I didn’t think I’d be writing this week’s update. I thought my posts this week would be filled with a birth story and precious pictures of my newborn but that wasn’t in the cards, instead here’s my 40 week update. I reached this point with Mason, but not with Kyla!
It’s hard to say for sure how big your baby will be, but the average newborn weighs about 7 1/2 pounds (about the size of a small pumpkin) and is about 20 inches long. His skull bones are not yet fused, which allows them to overlap a bit if it’s a snug fit through the birth canal during labor. This so-called “molding” is the reason your baby’s noggin may look a little conehead-ish after birth. Rest assured — it’s normal and temporary.
How Far Along: 40 Weeks
Due Date: January 15th, 2106
Boy or girl: Team Green!
Currently craving/Currently Avoiding: Meat is still not my favorite. Starting to think I should become a vegetarian, except for bacon and sausage.
Weight: Maintained this week which is good, I was overweight to begin with so I didn’t want to gain too much weight. This is still the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life. YIKES!
Belly button status: In!
Sleep grade: Still super sleepy! I could sleep all day long, I do somehow manage to squeeze in some naps. Thank goodness for the three year age gap otherwise I don’t think it would be doable unless I still had a napping child which I don’t!
Recent Crazy Dream: I had a very realistic dream that I drove to one of my friend’s houses that I know from my March group.
Evidence of pregnancy brain: I’m doing fairly well with keeping it together. The main thing I’ll say is that I seem to be in a funk. Since I thought the baby would be here already I feel like I’m in limbo, waiting every day for baby to come. It’s an odd feeling.
Symptoms?: Heartburn has been slow again this week too. The breathing thing I had mentioned is getting better too thanks to the supplements (Iron and Chlorophyll). I’m grateful that I’m not struggling as much to breathe.
Health/Appointments: I had an appointment on Thursday. An appointment I honestly didn’t think I’d make it too. When I wrote it in my planner I was all “ugh totally messing up my planner for no reason”. Well there was a reason LOL. Baby’s heart rate was great (146) and my blood pressure was good as well. We mainly talked about how I’m feeling, pressure to go into labor at a certain time and being surprised that I don’t have a newborn yet!
Movement: Things are slowing but baby is still moving a good amount. The morning and night time seem to be the most active for this little one.
Names: I repeat. The struggle is real.
Any baby related purchases?: Nothing baby related. I want to run out tomorrow and grab a cute, supportive sports bra for when I go into labor. Sounds silly but I’ll have a photographer there so I want to make sure that I like what I’m wearing.
