When I moved to Virginia 10 years ago to attend college I had no idea the impact that it would have on my life. I knew that college would be amazing. I knew that I would learn a ton, make friends, and gain independence. But I had NO idea that it would shape the mother and person that I’ve become today. See, I didn’t just move to Virginia for college. I ended up making this my place of residence. I’ve now been living here for the last 10 years on and off with the ON being for the better part of the last 5 years.
When I moved here and got pregnant with Mason, I started this little ole blog to keep my family updated. It lead me into the deep world of “crunchy”. It turns out that this area is pretty darn crunchy too. So over the years a lot of my friends are full blown, babywearing, cloth diapering, natural birthing, organic eating crunchies.
I am some of those things too. I babywear, I’ve used cloth diapers at time, I birthed Elena and Kyla naturally with NO DRUGS and I like to eat organically when I can. Heck I even did Elimination Communication with Kyla. Now that’s crunchy!
But there are times where I still feel like the Odd Mom Out. One of those time is TV. I love it. There I said it. I admitted it. I love it. One of my favorite channels is Bravo. I love watching all the dirty little secrets of the “Real Housewives”. I was beyond excited when I found that they were coming out with their first ever SCRIPTED series. It’s called Odd Mom Out and it immediately resonated with me! So how do you know if you’re the odd mom out? Your family or friends may want you to be doing this:
Meanwhile *you* feel like this:
You can check out the trailer here. I knew from the trailer that I had to watch it and I was super lucky to be able to do a pre-screening of the show. I feel like a VIM for getting to watch the first two episodes with friends BEFORE the show premieres on June 8th at 10pm EST on Bravo. If it hadn’t been mid-morning I would have been sipping on this Mom-ito while watching!
Although maybe a Mom-Osa would be more appropriate for mid-morning. I bet either would be fine on the Upper East Side.
You know how sometimes you watch a trailer and the trailer is hysterical and then you watch the show and it’s just not as funny? It’s the absolute WORST when that happens. Fortunately that wasn’t the case with Odd Mom Out. If anything it was even funnier!
It’s set in New York City and it follows the life of Jill who is married to her husband Andy, their three kids and her best friend Vanessa (who’s awesome). The premise of the show is her navigating her life as a wealthy family with even wealthier in-laws. She desperately wants to remain true to herself but also falls prey to the pressure of fitting in. Something that I think can resonate with so many people. You always want to remain true to yourself but, let’s be honest, it’s also nice to fit in!
Even though Jill is living a completely different life than I am, it was so easy to identify with her. She’s a normal mom like you and me! She doesn’t have a nanny, she IS the nanny aka the mommy. Watching a show about a completely different lifestyle than my own made me realize there’s a little Odd Mom Out in all of u
