Never in a million years did I think I’d be raising my children in Virginia. But that’s exactly what I’m doing and I couldn’t be happier with that choice. Our local community has so many great things going on for kids in the area many of which is absolutely free.
Whenever I talk up where I live to my family and friends back home I always bring up all the amazing parks and playgrounds in the are. Within 10 minutes of my house there are 5 playgrounds/parks that you can visit. Some are a little on the older side but most of them are pretty darn good shape and absolutely amazing for the kids.
On Tuesday and Saturday mornings we love to visit the Farmer’s Market downtown. It’s such a great place to go with the kids, meet some of our local farmers and buy fresh, seasonal food. There is a small little area where I can bring the kids to play after and many times we head to the library but other than that there is nothing FREE and OUTSIDE for the kids to do. Not only does this stink for me and my kids but it stinks for everyone who lives on that side of town who have no parks within walking distance!
Having this park would enhance the lives of the families living in and near downtown but also help the businesses that are downtown continue to thrive.
But that’s about to change, hopefully sooner than later.
A plan to expand the Farmer’s Market and build a play area for children downtown has recently been approved.
How awesome is that going to be?! The only problem? They need funding! So I snapped a selfie of Kyla and I. Tagged it #UltraHug and nominated the Downtown Park Plan to win $2000 towards their project.
You can enter your favorite community project too! From now through June 25th Huggies will be accepting selfies of you and your baby with the hashtag #UltraHug. You’ll be featured here. On July 6th, voting will begin to narrow down the 20 finalists to 10 winners who will win a $2,000 grant from Huggies for the nominated community initiative.
How to Enter:
- Take a Selfie of you and your baby and upload it to either Twitter or Instagram.
- Use the hashtag #UltraHug.
- Nominate your community project including the nae and/or identifying description of the project in the US.
You can’t get much easier than that! Here’s hoping that both our community projects make it to the finals!
