When I got pregnant with Mason I obsessed over my registry. I looked at items online, I went to Babies R Us what felt like a million times and I analyzed everything. When it came time for my baby shower we got everything that we needed and more. My friends and family were so beyond generous. Like every new mom as time goes on I realize there were things that we really needed and things we didn’t need at all (Can you say wipes warmer?).
Mason came home from the hospital in the middle of winter, here in Virginia it felt like we were having a record winter. I swear it snowed more in Virginia that year than it did in New York. It snowed the day I went into the hospital and then again a couple of days after he was born we got over a foot. A few days prior a friend came over to visit with us. She asked if she could hold him and against my better judgement, I allowed it. And then she kissed him.
My jaw dropped. I didn’t even know what to do. What to say. Shortly after she left, I grabbed my baby and tried to calm myself down. He would be fine right!? The next day she came by again because had left something behind. She mentioned that her boyfriend was in the car but couldn’t come in because he was sick. I immediately got a pit in my stomach. The next day Mason was breathing funny.
We ended up taking him to the ER. He was diagnosed with RSV. We quickly realized that even though we thought we had everything we needed we didn’t because now in addition to prescription for an antibiotic we also needed additional items to help clear Mason’s nose up. We anxiously went to the store and got a humidifier and we scoured the medicine aisle trying to figure out something that would clear our little man’s nose up.

My little guy was sick a few months ago! It was terrible! 🙁
The first time my son got sick was when he was 10 months old. He has an ear infection (hen ever complained or rubbed his ears) and his temp sky rocketed and he had a fibril seizure. It was so scary for me. He is 7 now and has not had another but we always keep a constant eye on him when he has fevers.
