My playgroup meets every single week most often TWO times a week. We love each other and our kids get along so we get together as often as we can. We are a fortunate group. None of us are “well off” but we have what we need and we have each other so it was high time we did something for others!
We were inspired by Champions for Kids. Champions for Kids makes it simple to give children in local communities the resources that they need to thrive. They want to ignite a generational change that helps to foster a “habit of giving” among children and their parents all across America.
Champions for Kids believes that all children should have:
Someone who cares; a place to belong; Hope for tomorrow and provisions for their journey. All children.
And they want everyone to know that it doesn’t have to be this crazy fundraiser were you donate $10,000 to a local charity. It *could* be that if you wanted but it doesn’t have to be. It’s all about creating a “habit of giving” through SIMPLE acts of generosity. SIMPLE Service.
My playgroup did just that by hosting a book drive. It was simple. Come have some fun with other moms, let your kids have some fun and bring some books for children in need.
We hosted the playgroup at our local park A Dream Come True Playground.
While we have a lot of parks this seemed like the best choice especially when you consider its origins. It’s a playground that was specifically built to make sure that ALL children were able to play and have fun regardless of any physical handicaps they may have. What better place to collect books for children than a playground that was built to be A Dream Come True for all children?
Books can help create a dream world for children where they can escape when their day isn’t going right. It helps them to become more imaginative and improve their language skills. However not all kids get that luxury, hence our SIMPLE Service Projects was a book drive.
Now to August 18th Champions for Kids is partnering with Kellogg Company to encourage #Fuel4School community projects across the country that benefit children in need. Here are 4 easy steps to make it easy for you to host or help organize an event to collect gently used or new books to donate to a local organization that serves children in need.
