A couple of months ago it was the opening weekend for Little Leauge. And this year for the first time in a long time I was there since Mason was in his first year of T-Ball. It was so surreal seeing Mason in his uniform. Sometimes it’s still hard for me to believe that I’m old enough to have a child that plays T-Ball. When did that happen? When did he get this big?
Being at the baseball field brings back so many memories for me. My dad is a long time volunteer for Little League and I pretty much grew up at the fields in the spring and summer. So many of my memories revolve around being at the fields watching baseball games and running around with friends.
Many nights during the week my Mom, my Dad and the kids and I would head to the field. Right next to the field was a McDonald’s and we would often grab dinner there before heading to the field. I’ll always remember seeing the Golden Arches and one of my (many) siblings would always start proclaiming how hungry they were.
It soon became obvious that they suddenly became ridiculously hungry because they saw and wanted McDonald’s. It didn’t always work but more often than not it did! No one complained!
We would sit and eat dinner together as a family on the bleachers or the picnic benches if they were empty and then we would either head to our respective destinations. For me it was often with my friends running around stealing boys hats and running away with the crack of bats in the background.
Now that Mason has completed his first year in T-Ball I look at those memories fondly especially since there is a McDonald’s near where his baseball games will be held. It feels like a little piece of home. I would grab breakfast before his earlier games. Fresh cracked eggs with sausage on an english muffin with a hash brown (or two)! Mason’s favorite thing though is the apples that come with the Happy Meals and of course the toy! He’s known to only eat the apples and play with the toy he gets. Daddy always eats his chicken nuggets though so they don’t go to waste!
I can’t wait to for Mason’s T-ball adventures to happen all over again next year. It’s pretty much one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen! I’m sure I’ll capture even more America’s Funniest Home Videos submissions before long. Every week brings a new pile up!
Do your kids play baseball/softball? What do you think about when you think about baseball season? Will you be watching the Little League World Series?
