What To Expect When You Have a Little Girl

When I realized that Baby3 was right around the corner I asked one of of my groups if anyone wanted to guest post and help fill my calendar up while I enjoyed my baby girl. I was thrilled when Brittany from The Domestic Geek said she’d guest post for me. I met Brittany when we were both in the Due in July 2012 group. She has turned out to be an invaluable friend and I’m happy to share her with you!

My name is Brittany and I have the awesome pleasure of guest posting for my friend Christa while she is spending her time with her newly expanded family! First of all, I am so so excited and happy for Christa and her family. Baby number 3 is finally here! I think I’ll end up calling her Baby Number 3 for a while since that’s what we’ve been calling her throughout the pregnancy. If you don’t know me, I blog about my life and sometimes even video games over at The Domestic Geek blog. I have an 8 month old daughter of my own. Her name is Aliceana and she is a little monstrosity. She’s just a hair shy of being 30 pounds, she’s long too. She basically looks like a toddler, and unfortunately she’s starting to act like one too.

I thought it would be fun to share some of the things I’ve learned in the last 8 months of raising my daughter. As a mom to a little girl, you will spend more time dressing your child than you spend picking out clothes for yourself. It’s pretty common in my house for my daughter to be dressed like a little diva, while I’m rocking the yoga pants. Then there’s the days where we both wear yoga pants. (Oh yeah, you can find baby yoga pants now. So cute!) Speaking of that wardrobe your daughter has, it will be enormous. Everyone is compelled to buy little girls clothing. It will be a sea of pink and purple in her dresser drawers and closet. I never knew how many shades of pink and purple there were until I had Aliceana. The fun part is when you’ll grab a really cute pair of pink pants from her drawer, and when you try to match it up with a pink top, every single top is the wrong shade and they clash horribly. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t care that much anymore, and I’ll have her wearing 7 shades of pink and purples, and I just hope that no one will come by to see her on that day. Of course we always get visitors when she’s mismatched, and we spend all day at home and alone when she’s wearing her cutest, most put-together outfits. No matter how much pink and purple your daughter is wearing in public, she will be called a boy. Seriously; pink pants, pink peacoat, pink kitty hat, pink blanket, and her stroller is pink. “What a cute little boy!” is what you’ll hear. I think people do it on purpose, I mean they have to be doing it on purpose, right?
