With Baby3’s arrival right around the corner I’m trying to get together with all of my girl friends sorta like a last hoorah before I have two kids and it takes even longer to get out of the house than it used too!
With Mason I went every where with him for pretty much the first two years of his life and I’m thinking it’s going to be the same thing with this baby which to a certain extent limits what I can do and where I can go especially since she’ll be born towards the end of RSV/Flu season. Mason got RSV just a couple of days after he was born and it was really scary despite the fact that he recovered quickly. I do not want Baby3 to get too.
Recently I got together with some friends last minute and while I was at the grocery store before they came over I picked up some Starbucks Willow Blonde Blend and Lemon Sliced Cream Cake that we could enjoy.
My Walmart had a small display right in the bakery section that gave you ideas for what you can match with Starbucks’ Blond Blends. Citrus was one of the things it mentioned which is perfect since I love pretty much anything lemon! Your Walmart may have an even bigger display so be sure to keep a look out for it so you can make a delicious pairing as well!
Now if you read my blog you know that I love baking from scratch and anything lemon flavored is a plus but sometimes I just don’t have the time to bake everything from scratch as much as I want too so I was excited to see if this cake from Walmart would be a good alternative!
As soon as I got back to the house I started brewing some coffee! I needed a little pick me up!
I was also really excited to try the Blonde Willow Blend on its own. I usually get Frappes from Starbucks because they’re light in flavor but still delicious. I much prefer lighter coffee blends so I was excited to see Starbucks had lighter blends which is perfect for when I want to get hot coffee.
Here’s a picture of what the coffee looks like without any creamer in it so you can see how dark it is:
I was honestly surprised how dark it was, since it’s a “Blonde” blend I thought it would be a little lighter in color without creamer in it.
When I added creamer it was still on the dark side (for me) but I figured I should taste it before I judged 🙂
I gave it a try and actually liked it! It didn’t taste as dark as it looked if that makes sense lol
As much as I wanted to eat the cake right then and then I waited until my friends showed up! I brewed them a new pot and started cutting up the cake so we could try our Delicious Pairing!
I was REALLY impressed with how good the cake was! It was really moist and had just the right amount of lemon flavor! I wasn’t only B (who crashed our girls brunch) really liked it too and he doesn’t love lemon nearly as much as I do! One of my girl friends thought that it was a little too lemony (she’s crazy obviously) and the other liked it just as much as I did!
All four of us really enjoyed it with the coffee. To me it helped bring out the citrus notes in the Willow Blend, which I didn’t taste when I tried the coffee on its own. I was surprised about that because usually I’m not very good at picking out flavors like that pairing or not lol.
I’m so excited for Baby3 to get here but I’m going to miss having my friends over for a bit! We’re going to have to do this a few more times before Baby3 makes her appearance!

I absolutely love Blonde Roast, it’s my favorite coffee that I can buy at a grocery store! That cake looks amazing too!
