From my pictures it’s probably not clear that I’m half Puerto Rican. And the reason this is relevant is because growing up my mother and grandmother would eat avocado wedges with their dinner. Puerto Ricans ate avocados like it was going out of style before it was even cool. They almost always offered a wedge to me. And I always declined. I just couldn’t get over the texture and I wasn’t thrilled with the flavor either, even after adding salt. Homemade Guacamole nor restaurant guacamole made the cut either.
In recent years though avocados have become all the rage. You can’t go ANYWHERE without guacamole being served it seems. And earlier this year I was all kinds of hungry and the only thing available was guacamole and chips. So I started with just the chips. And then I decided to test out the homemade guacamole and it wasn’t half bad. At first I needed ALL chunks to be out of the guacamole but lately I’ve graduated to chunks. Chunks are fine by me now.
I’ve only made my own guacamole a few times at this point but I really liked my most recent stab at it. It felt like the perfect beginner’s homemade guacamole. Not too chunky, not too many things going on but still with a bright and fresh flavor.
This recipe is super simple but it does have some special ingredients, Lemon Vitality and Lime Vitality. The flavor the Lemon and Lime Vitality add is incredible. It’s one of the main reasons I started to eat guacamole other than the fact that I was hungrier than usual of course.
You could for sure use just lemon juice and lime juice but I can’t vouch for the intensity of the flavor if you do. Please, whatever you do, don’t head to your local grocery store and just grab any ole lemon or lime essential oil. That wouldn’t be safe! You *need* quality oils here and I’m happy to help you get your hands on them!
Now the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the recipe! I used the reamer end of my favorite citrus fruit tool to mash up the guacamole. I! t was so easy to use and the texture it gave was wonderful. For the life of me I can’t find the tool I’m talking about but this is what the reamer end looks like, though it’s a little more rounder than that one.
