When I first had Mason I rarely if ever left him, he was with my 24/7. With Kyla I was the same way. By the time Emilia came around I was still pretty attached but I started to let go just a little bit more. It was OKAY to go grocery shopping without her. It was OKAY to let her spend the day with Daddy while I worked or had a girls day. Being a little more independent from my under two year old has meant that we’ve done A LOT of car seat swapping. Which anyone who owns car seats know is a major pain. After what felt like the bajillionth time we decided it was finally time to get Emilia her very own car seat for Daddy’s car.
For the last seven years I have researched car seat brands and have tested SO many different car seats. I knew that when shopping for a new car seat for Emilia that quality, safety and affordability were going to be the three areas we focused on. We didn’t want to break the bank on this purchase but we also wanted to make sure that Emilia would be safe and that the car seat would last us. Nobody has the time or the money to buy 3+ car seats for their children! In the middle of our search one of my favorite companies to work with reached out to me about doing a car seat review for Graco. UM YES! YES! YES!
Thank you universe!
Graco was the brand we first ever purchased. It was the brand that helped to bring Mason home safely from the hospital. Then and now Graco specializes in practical and dependable parenting solutions that help make our daily lives easier. They create quality products that will last your family for years to come–just ask my mom! When Mason was born she had a car seat from my then two year old sister that she could use in her car for him.
There were SO many different Graco car seats that I could choose from at Walmart.com and every single one of them was under $300, combine that with free in store pick up or 2 day shipping and it felt like a total mom win.
Normally, I’m not the most patient so if my schedule allows it, I’m all about the in store pick up but depending on my schedule FREE two day shipping is the way to go. That was the case this time around. I placed my order and two days later Emilia’s brand new car seat was sitting at my doorstep. I LOVE that it was shipped in the box. Way to cut out on shipping waste, Walmart! With so many choices we ultimately went with the Graco Slimfit. I was so excited to get it open and check it out, it never even went in the house. Right from my doorstep to the car!
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from years of being a car seat safety advocate it’s that the most important aspect of safety is making sure that you’ve installed the car seat you have correctly and that your child is buckled in correctly. It doesn’t hurt that Graco car seats are rigorously tested to meet or exceed US FMVSS safety standards though. The Graco Slimfit had so many features that help make the perfect install super easy. One feature that I love is the clear labeling. It’s a great reminder to make sure you’re child is in their seat properly.
Another feature I love is the recline options. This make it easy to know that your child is at the perfect recline.
When your child is rear-facing you need to make sure that they’re using recline position 1 or 2 AND that this little ball is completely in the blue. If it’s not, you need to readjust.
Another feature that I love is how easy it is to adjust the harness height. It is the biggest headache in so many car seats but Graco makes it easy with their 10 position adjust harness + headrest feature. Just push up on the red and lift and lower as needed.
With a easy to understand manual and clear labeling getting the perfect install on your Graco car seat is easy.
