Disclosure: This post was brought to you by CARE TO RECYCLE® and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own and I hope you enjoy them.
Just the other day a friend remarked that I had really stepped up my recycling. At first I brushed her off but the more that I think about it the more that I realize she’s right! We try to recycle as much as we possibly can. Luckily our city helps us out by collecting some of our recyclables. The other stuff like cardboard we collect and bring to B’s dad’s shop since he has a cardboard recycling pick-up available there. We also make sure that we recycle things like plastic bags. We collect them next to our garbage and every time we run to Walmart or Food Lion we empty it out there at the recycling bins they have.
There is one place I haven’t stepped up my game though. The Bathroom. According to research, 70% of Americans say they consistently recycle. 40% say they never recycle in bathroom.
The CARE TO RECYCLE® program wants to change that! While I do it some, like most Americans I often forget. It sounds silly but I think part of it has to do with how far away it is from my recycling bin! Like, I said, SILLY!
There are so many ways you can make Earth Day every day starting right in your own home! Here are some simple and/or fun things you can do today that can make a big difference in the long run for our every day.
- Stop buying/using plastic water bottles instead purchase glass or stainless steel reusable water bottles.
- Have easy access to your recycling bin to make recycling easier.
- Have a recycling pail on every level so that you can easily toss your recyclables into the bin for easy transfer on recycle day.
- Recycle your shampoo and mouthwash bottles.
- Recycle your toilet paper rolls when you’re finished with them.
- Collect your plastic bags and bring them to a local store that collectsthem.
- Better yet stop using plastic bags and instead use fabric bags!
- Collect Trash at your favorite park/playground. (We do this often).
- If your town doesn’t collect cardboard find a local establishment that does and start recycling your cardboard. You’d be AMAZED at how much can accumulate in just one week!
- Plant a Tree!
- Grow your own herbs, fruits and vegetables.
- Create a compost with kitchen scraps and yard materials.
- If it’s broken, try fixing it before replacing it.
- Consume less, instead of buying brand new shop from your closet or a thrift store!
- Use recycled printer paper and loose leaf in your school and office supplies!
Not sure what or where to recycle some of your items? Contact your local recycling office or check out this easy guide. Generally #1 and #2 plastics (PET & HDPE) are most commonly collected plastics. If you’re in doubt, look it up or recycle it. If it can’t be recycled it will be removed and put with the trash.

Actually, plastic really has a big help to our daily needs, but it should also be balanced. We should learn how to use it properly or dispose it properly. Recycling really helps a lot and when many people was aware of these, we can help to save our environment.
Thanks for your article about recycling. I grew up in the Northwest and our family made a consistent effort to recycle as much as we could. You make a great point about setting up recycling containers next to your garbage so that you have the reminder to recycle and a receptacle for your recyclables. I'll keep your other tips in mind as well. Thanks for the post. http://www.cfmaier.com/products/recycling.htm
