The Cool Thing to Do: Mason Goes to Preschool

I honestly never thought this day would come, I could never wrap my brain around my little tiny baby going to preschool. I’m still having a hard time wrapping my brain around it but its happened. Mason is 3 1/2 and goes to preschool three days a week for about 2 1/2 hours. It’s not much but it’s something and it’s the start of what’s to come.

It’s the start of lots of firsts and before I know it, it will be the first day of Kindergarten. And those years will go by even faster than these.

Luckily we still have this year and next year for preschool. He’ll still spend most of his days with me. We’ll have more time to bond and build memories.

When we arrived at school he didn’t want me to leave, he wanted me to stay with him, but he was quickly distracted by cool new toys and friends. I told him I was leaving and he told me “No Mommy don’t leave” and his voice faded off and his attention wandered as another little child started to play with the toy he was playing with.

When I picked him up he screamed my name, ran over to me and gave me a huge hug and kiss. He’s not too old for that thank God.

On his second day of preschool we walked in and he saw that none of the other kids were holding their mommies hands so he said to me, I don’t want to hold your hand Mommy. Then he looked around again looked back up and he grabbed my hand and said actually mommy, I do want to hold your hand. And we held hands until it was time for him to go in.

I hope he always remembers that, that it’s okay to love on your Mom even if it doesn’t seem like the cool thing to do.

Seeing these pictures makes me all sorts of teary. My baby, my first born is growing up so quickly and how grateful I am that he is doing so.
