This is less of a recipe and more of a fun project to do with the kids, they will LOVE doing this and love seeing how quickly the milk, sugar and vanilla {or chocolate} turns to an ice cream like consistency! It’s the perfect thing to do on a hot summer day!
You start off with two freezer bags
In one bag you put ice and salt, no need to fill it up high. Just make a layer or two of ice and then poor salt over the top!
In the second bag you put about a 1/2 cup of milk, 2 Tablespoons of sugar Vanilla extract and/or chocolate syrup. I found that when you mixed the Vanilla extract and chocolate syrup it came out tasting like a frosty! If you do just chocolate milk there is NO NEED to add sugar. Only add sugar if you want purely vanilla ice cream.
Next you want to make sure that the bag with ingredients is closed tightly, than put that bag into the bag that has the salt and ice:
Seal the salt/ice bag and the next step is where the fun comes in! You have to shake shake shake shake shake the bag until the liquid becomes solid! Most kids loving doing this part but they may need a little help from Mom and/or Dad to really make sure that it gets nice and solid.
Here’s what mine looked like when it was almost done:
I shook it for a little bit longer and then I enjoyed a small bowl of “ice cream”.
The consistency of this no ice cream maker ice cream is more similar to ice cream than the previous no ice cream maker required recipe I posted last week. Depending on my mood I actually prefer this one! I also like that this one is done immediately, no need to wait for it to freeze!
You can’t go too crazy as far as ingredients go but you can add other flavors like mint extract or strawberry syrup! You can also make it really fun for the kids by making the classic vanilla but using food dye to give it a crazy color!
