Emilia is six months old and for the last six months I’ve been picking at her Cradle cap whenever she’d let me. Finally I decided that enough was enough and it was time to take matters into my own hands. I decided to follow the advice of a friend who gave me an all natural way to get rid of cradle cap, coconut oil! All you have to do is rub onto the scalp help to soften things up and make getting rid those scales easy.
Me being me, I decided to add some essential oils. I think at this point we all know the amazing benefits of essential oils so adding them seemed like a no-brainer. I added Young Living Lavender, Cedarwood and Manuka which is a type tea tree oil. You could easily use regular tea tree. It’s super easy to whip this up but first, the before and afters!
Cradle Cap Before:
Cradle Cap After:
Ingredients
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 drop Lavender
1 drop Cedarwood
1 drop Manuka or Tea Tree Oil
Directions
In a very small bowl (I used a 2oz condiment bowl like so). mix together 1 teaspoon coconut oil and your essential oils. Take the mixture and completely saturate the area where the cradle cap is. Rub any excess over the rest of the scalp. Leave on for at least 15 minutes. Use a fine tooth comb to comb out the flakes. When all or most of the flakes are gone shampoo to remove what’s left, if any.
Here is a side by side of the before and after so you can really get a good sense of how well it worked. My after is PRE-shampoo which is why her hair looks so dark–there’s still coconut oil in there!
Due to the abundance of essential oil companies out there and quality concerns we only use Young Living Essential Oils, if you don’t already have some, you can grab yours here.
