I try to eat a fruit or vegetable with every single meal. It doesn’t always happen but I try. My kids on the hand absolutely do. Sometimes I feel like that’s all they eat. Especially Mason. Kyla is more of a carb girl like her mama. I don’t blame her they’re delicious, but so are fruit and vegetables.
We go through apples like we’ll never be able to buy them again. We EASY go through 10 a week which is a lot when there is only 4 of us in the household and B rarely if ever eats apples. I’m so excited that it’s spring because after spring it’s Summer and then it’s Honeycrisp apple season, my favorite apples ever.
When it comes to our fruits and vegetables especially during the warmer months we buy Organic/local as much as we possibly can. We often hit up our local Farmer’s Market twice a week. Organic or not we always make sure we rinse and wash our vegetables before use!
For a while I had bought something from the store. After that I started doing a soak. Typically half water/half vinegar and then I would soak my fruits or vegetables for about 20 minutes. It was always kind of a pain because my sink is rarely empty so soaking my fruits and vegetables always meant doing the dishes too. So I decided that going back to a spray was the thing to do. Of course, I had to make it myself!
My recipe for my DIY Fruit and Vegetable Wash spray is similar to my “recipe” for the soak except I used different ratio for the water/vinegar and added Lemon Essential Oil.
Using it is super simple. Just spray your fruits or vegetables with the mixture making sure to coat it evenly. Let sit for at least 1-2 minutes (longer is okay!) then rinse with warm water.
You should make sure your washing all your fruit and vegetables but be especially mindful about the Dirty Dozen. If you can, buy organic to help avoid pesticides.
Even better? Grow your own garden so that you know exactly where your fruits and vegetables are coming from! We’re doing that this year! We’re also helping our garden grow by composting.
