Last week, school ended here in Virginia. Mason has been out since May 15, so while I’m over the initial OMG SCHOOL IS OUT WHAT DO WE DO daze, my friends are just entering it. Meanwhile I’m getting in the groove, we’ve been doing something almost every day. It feels good!
In New York my poor siblings still have about two weeks left! Which means the kids and I will be packing up the car and heading to New York to see my baby sister graduate. I can’t believe it’s already time for her to graduate high school. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was still living at home and all 5-7 of us kids were piling into the car ready to hit the road. Whether it was a quick ride to practice or our annual girls day at the beach it was always an adventure.
Right now when the kids and I pile into the car and head to NY it’s just the three of us. Me, a 5-year-old and a newly potty-trained 2-year-old. It doesn’t matter if we’re heading to the park or if we’re heading to NY, there are some Summer Must-Haves we always have in the car. Summer is about spontaneity and our car is what takes us there more often than not, so we always like to be prepared!
We have a nifty car organizer that I got for Christmas a couple of years ago and it’s my favorite! On one side of it I have all of our swim must-haves including a bathing suit for each child, two towels and a blanket so we can lay out. Not shown are two pairs of swimmies so we always have them available and our DIY sunscreen!
We don’t often go swimming without knowing we’re going to, but I’m all about being prepared. You never know when a sprinkler at a play date is going to pop up or a random trip to the river sounds fun. Or playing in the park fountain is just what the doctor ordered.
Next up is my old diaper bag. This bag has three pockets. One side is for on the go fun for the kids: paper, crayons, markers and coloring books; the middle carries a change of clothes for each child; and the other side is stuff for me. There is plenty of room to throw in our snack bag, which is always packed and ready to go when we leave the house. In a small outside pocket, it also carries hand sanitizer and first aid items!
This wagon just made our list but it’s something I’ve been wanting for a really long time. It can carry all of our bags, my purse and even the kids if needed! I’m SO excited to add this wagon to our summer adventures!
Another must-have on my list? The amazing Chevy Traverse. Have you seen this baby?
What are your summer adventures looking like this year?
