Whether you’re having your first baby or your 10th there always seems to be a list a mile long of things that you need to get done before the baby arrives. You have big projects and little projects. Things that you would like to get done but doesn’t HAVE to get done. You plan and you plan. What is it they say about the best laid plans though? They often go awry. So while there are always going to be a ton of things on your to do list these are the things I think it’s most important to get done!
1. Declutter
Once again first baby or tenth baby it doesn’t matter. Once you find out you’re having a baby you tend to accumulate stuff. People are giving you there hand-me-downs. You’re pulling out hand-me-downs from the attic or basement, well meaning relatives are buying gifts for you. You have a baby shower. You have a sprinkle. Stuff just comes pouring in. Let me tell you IT NEVER STOPS. Kids accumulate more items than you can ever imagine. The absolute best thing you can do is declutter before the baby arrives. This doesn’t have to be all done at once. You can do it room by room. Space by space. Just make sure you get it done! You won’t regret it.
2. Baby Proof.
Okay this may be something that most people tell you can wait until your baby starts crawling and maybe to a certain extent they’re right. With that being said it’s much easier to baby proof the major things BEFORE baby gets here OR at the very least gather all the supplies. One thing you can do right away that’s SO important is secure your furniture to the wall. Most often you don’t realize there is a need until there is a close call or it’s too late. Prepare where you can ahead of time.
3. Go on a Baby-moon.
Babymoon is just a fancy name for a vacation pre-baby. Here’s the thing, if you can go away AWESOME. It can be as simple as a quick weekend trip or a week long trip. If you can’t get away at all that’s okay too but what I’m suggesting instead is spending quality time with your partner. Do things you wouldn’t be able to do or wouldn’t be as easy to do with a baby in tow.
4. Get a “Baby” Egg together.
With a baby comes expenses. Sometimes it’s the things you want to get for baby. Other times it’s a bigger car or a bigger house. More than anything I hope it helps you go on your baby-moon. I hope it helps you to have a Sunny Day that you deserve. You just never know what types of expenses are going to come up; Which is why it’s important to start storing some money away! If you already have a nest egg, that’s awesome add more than you normally would to prepare for baby.
5. Learn and Connect.
Welcoming a baby into the world is one of the best things you can do in your life. Make sure you’re update to date on the latest research. You wouldn’t believe the amount of things that changed between Mason and Kyla. Meanwhile they’re only three years apart. Read books about pregnancy, birth and raising your baby. Another must do? Connect with women who are experiencing similar things to you. It can be a local Mom’s group or even one online but it helps to bounce ideas off of other moms who are going through the same thing.
Welcoming a new baby into your life will be one of the happiest of your life. Ease the stress and be as prepared as you can be.
