Is Your Child in the Right Car Seat?

Disclosure: I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Chicco. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.

I’m going to own up to this right this second. Love it or hate it, I’m a car seat rule enforcer. I’m HUGE on car seat safety. My four year old who will be 5 at the end of this month is rear-facing. YUP. He’s STILL rear-facing. He’s what I would say he’s average in height and below average in weight. He fits the constraints of his car seat so we figured the longer he rear faces the better!

Mason is from as best as I can tell the only one of his older friends who is still rear facing. Which is totally okay since again, as far as I can tell they’re still in appropriate car seats which I think is great, it means that proper car seat safety information is getting out there. People are learning and that is a wonderful thing. However, there are still a lot of people who don’t know which is why I will continue to write posts like these and be a car seat advocate.

Is your child in the right car seat?

Car Seat Ages

Besides the the type of car seat your child should be in the information I love most that this graphic gives you is that maturity matters. Just because your child is old enough for a booster seat age wise doesn’t mean they’re old enough maturity wise. They need to be able to sit still in the proper position for the entire car ride. So, is your child in the right seat, both age wise and maturity wise? I hope they are, but if they’re not it’s okay, but NOW that you know that they’re in the wrong seat, get them into the right seat! There are a ton of great options out there!

The Chicco KidFit Booster Seat is one of those great options once you’re in the booster stage which is from ages 4-12.

But keep in mind just because your child is a certain age doesn’t mean they NEED to move up to the next seat level. If they still fit the weight and height requirements keep them in the lower seat option like a 5 point harness.

Chicco KidFit Booster Seat Features

  • DuoZone™ 10-position head and shoulder side-impact protection
  • SuperCinch® LATCH attachment and tightener
  • ErgoBoost™ contoured seat with double foam padding
  • 2 removable cup holders fold away when not in use
  • Removable, machine-washable seat pad and armrest covers
  • 2-position backrest adjusts to mimic vehicle seat position
  • Removable backrest for use as backless booster

I LOVE the SuperCinch LATCH attachment and tightener when it comes to car seat safety the most important thing is often correct installation. You can have the best car seat in the world but if you don’t have the seat properly installed it doesn’t mean a thing! I saw it at BlogHer this year and I was obsessed! Such a great feature!

Mason is just about to be 5 so now we’re talking about putting facing him forward, before we know it we’ll be switching him to a booster. For me that’s the biggest transition that I’m most nervous about. It’s so important to make sure they’re ready both age wise and maturity wise.

Car Seat Safety rules change so often so I make sure that I stay up to date by following my favorite car seat brands and following The Car Seat for the Littles website. They have a lot of great information. Here at Little Us, I’ll also share car seat safety information as I hear it so that I can do my part to keep every parent up to date!

Great post! I love the features on the car seat, especially the 2 removable cup holders that fold away when not in use, this is a life saver. Great style too!
