40 Bags in 40 Days

Last night I  got a bunch of little blogging stuff done, fixed a ton of broken links, updated some recipe posts and got rid of a StumbleUpon list of shares that was 500 strong just yesterday. It felt good to get some things like that done they seem like they’re little things but they’re important to my blog maintenance.  Afterwards I was ready to just veg out so we watched The Walking Dead while I occasionally pinned. One of the first things I cam across was a 40 Bags in 40 Days post.

40 bags in 40 days

If you’ve never heard of it before be sure to check out that post for details but essentially it’s an effort to get rid of 40 bags in 40 days during the Lent season which starts March 5th. I’ve heard of it before but never once though about doing it. We’ve tried to get rid of things before and we have most especially right before Kyla made her appearance but it’s hard for me especially. For B it’s no problem at all. He’s ready to throw away and give away almost everything in our house. Poor thing will probably never live down giving away my hole puncher.

Whenever I think of this challenge I think of 40 HUGE black garbage bags but that doesn’t have to be the case at all. It can be grocery bags and you can even count piece of furniture as a “bag”.

I think giving up “stuff” during the Lent season is a great idea and it will certainly go along with my New Year’s resolution (yes I’m still talking about those) and Spring Cleaning! But…

What do you do with all the stuff?

Around here we have lots of different options. We have local consignment shops as well as national consignment shops like Once Upon a Child for kid’s clothes. You can also sell on craigslist or your local Facebook group.

If you’re looking for more online things Ebay is always an option for selling items for people all over the world. On a search for other used item market places online I came across a great one for Australian moms, Quicksales. Canada also has Kijiji.

We also throw a lot of stuff away but we try and recycle or upcycle anything we can!

Who’s With Me?

Who else feels like they need this 40 Bags in 40 Days in their life? I know exactly what room I’m starting with! The “spare” room aka the co-sleeping room where the kids and I spend our nights!
