So Your Kid Wants a Cell Phone…

Disclosure: I participated in a campaign for Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Zact. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

I vividly remember begging my parents for a cell phone when I was around 15 years old. That Christmas I got one and I was BEYOND excited. I felt like I was one of the last kids to have one!

Fast forward a few short years and my 13 year old sister gets a cell phone. I was not a happy camper. I didn’t get one until I was 15 but she gets one when’s she 13!?

The truth is though times are changing, kids are getting phones younger and younger and it’s not just for their convenience it’s for ours as well. I am not a parent who says “no cell phone until high school”. In fact I’ll probably get my child a cell phone in middle school, when they start doing after school sports.

But I still have my concerns. What parent wouldn’t?

Which is why I’m excited about a new cell phone service I just found out about. Zact.

Zact’s average monthly bill is $22.

Best of all? The parental controls.

You can set curfews, block contacts or allow only certain ones. You can also set allowances on the amount of talk, text and data they can use.

They were also just awarded the seal of approval from The National Parenting Center. Learn more here.

My daughter didn’t get a cell phone until she was a senior in high school, and she felt like she was the last teenager on earth without one. I do see the need for as young as middle schoolers to have one especially if they attend after school activities.

My daughter is 15 and doesn’t WANT a cell phone! You are sure right about it being for our convenience. ..I have been begging her to carry one for a few years now so I can get in touch with her whenever I need to. One day…lol.

I agree that when they start going to things where they are staying after school etc need one, but I had Kindergarteners when I was teaching that got them for Christmas! I honestly didn’t get one until I went to college, but I definitely think there is a line. I do love all of the parental controls on this though. Definitely would want one liek this for when my kiddos are old enough
