Battling the baby weight has been fun. Battling is a strong word for what I’m doing though. I keep talking about how I have to get motivated and I mean it, I DO need to get more motivated but it never happens. I always have an excuse. And then a part of me doesn’t care. But I *do* care. I care what others think and I care about the way I look and most importantly feel.

The Dukan Diet was developed by a physician. It’s more than a diet it’s a lifestyle consisting of 4 phases to help you reach your True Weight and maintain it for life. It emphasizes lean protein, lots of water, daily walking and like I mentioned above unlimited amounts of 100 healthy foods.

What’s your True Weight?

Each person’s True Weight is unique to them and is determined by answering 80 short questions that will help define their personalized program in detail. Where do I start?

There are four different phases, the first two are the loosing weight phases and the second two help maintain and stabilize your weight loss.

Phase 1–The Attack Phase: The Pure Protein Diet. A high protein diet means a low carb diet. And yes low carb can be hard but it won’t be low carb for long! This phase of the diet lasts anywhere from 2-10 days. It creates a fantastic kick start to your diet which helps you see results fast which helps motivate you to continue on the plan!

Phase 2–The Cruise Phase: The Alternating Protein Diet. During this phase you alternate pure protein days like the ones you had in Phase 1 with days where you can eat pure protein plus certain vegetables. This is the phase where you will reach your goal weight.

Phase 3–The Consolidation Phase: The Transition Diet. You follow this phase for 5 Days for ever pound lost. It’s designed to prevent you from gaining weight rapidly after rapidly losing weight. It’s purpose is to get you eating a wider variety of foods again without gaining weight.

Phase 4–The Permanent Stabilization Phase: Ultimate Long-Term Weight Control. This is where life long changes come into play. Every week for one day out of the week for the rest of your life you need to follow the The Attack Phase diet plan, not use elevators or escalators and take 3 tablespoons of oat bran a day.

Dukan Diet and Breastfeeding

Dr. Dukan recommends that breastfeeding mothers eat as if you were simply managing your weight during a normal pregnancy, following the Consolidation Phase where you can eat a little more than your non-breastfeeding counterparts by getting 2 servings of fruit instead of just 1, using 1 percent milk and milk products instead of nonfat ones and leaving out protein Thursdays.

Bottom Line

The further I get in the book and the more I learn about the diet the more I feel like for a motivated individual this diet could really work. While it has you make life long changes they’re reasonable changes. Changes like eating a high pure protein diet one day a week, avoiding elevators and escalators (i.e MOVING MORE) and eating 3 tablespoons of oat bran per day are NOT hard. In addition to that so many of the foods are food that I’m already eating so it would be easy to make recipes that the whole family would enjoy to help keep me on track.

Everything is laid out for you in the book and when you combine it with a Dukan Coach being successful should come rather easily!
