When I found out that Pull Ups is throwing a huge potty training celebration in Times Square to help parents and tots kick off potty training on January 29th I took it as a sign that I needed to get my butt in gear with Potty Training Mason.
Why?
Because the day of the big party is on *my* Birthday AND the day before Mason’s. That’s gotta be a sign right?
It makes me wish I was going to be in NY (my parents live there and fairly close to the city) so that I could actually attend. There will be a giant potty, live performers and a light up billboard celebration!
But just because I’m not going to be in NYC doesn’t mean I can’t get in on the action! And the same goes for you!
Pull-Ups wants you to share your little one’s First Flush Celebration! Your photo will have the chance to be featured on a Time Square Billboard during the First Flush celebration AND you’ll be entered to win a magical trip!

Things have been interesting. Mason was doing so well for a while but he really “regressed”. Basically one day a couple of weeks ago he started having meltdowns when we tried putting him on the toilet. I knew that we weren’t going to get ANYTHING accomplished with him melting down so I figured a break was in order.
But with Baby3 due to make her arrival in about 8 weeks give or take a week or two it’s and Mason about to turn 3 it’s time to jump in again!
We’re going to start slow. Last night I started by having him go on the potty before his bath. I *know* he can do this. He just has to want it! I watch him start to pee and then stop it when I told him not to go in the tub. Then he went on the potty. If that doesn’t scream ready I don’t know what does!
So our Plan:
- Add the potty to his morning routine, wake up, go potty, brush his teeth etc.
- Ask every 30 minutes if he needs to use the potty. If he goes he gets a reward (I’m thinking 10 minutes of time on my phone to “bank”.)
- Add the potty to his night time routine. Before getting in the tub & after.

Sounds like Mason is def ready! Having 2 in diaps isn’t hard but potty training with a newborn is :-/ Hopefully he just gets it and goes!

My son learned how to use the potty seemingly overnight! We had always had a little potty out for him, and then I noticed about a month or two before his 3rd birthday that he was dry a lot overnight, so I started putting him in underpants. After a day or two, I realized that putting him in a diaper to take him out was hurting our progress, so I took him grocery shopping in underpants. Once he saw that public restrooms were an option, it was over. He never wore a diaper again. Buying him new Jake and the Neverland Pirates underpants helped too. It’s been about 4 months now and we’ve had a handful of accidents, but overall it was a really easy process. I think it’s because we didn’t really push.
Sounds to me like Mason is ready, or at least really close! Fingers crossed that he gets the hang of it before baby #2 arrives! That will save you a lot of time and effort!!

What worked for us was going cold turkey off the diapers – no looking back. We packed them all away (for baby #2 to use) but we told my daughter that we didn’t have any more. And having a potty training boot camp – we spend a 3 day weekend locked in the bathroom until she “got it”.
