I have been very fortunate that Mason rarely gets sick. I think I can count on one hand how many times he’s been sick.
Even with him not getting sick that often I’m still a worrier and I’ve been known to ask B a time or two if Mason “feels warm”. Up until recently I didn’t have a thermometer that worked well for Mason. Putting him under his tongue just isn’t an option and everything else we’ve had has taken a little too long for my wormy guy.
Then we got the Exergen Temporal Scanner.
Mason was over being sick at this point but that didn’t stop me from trying it out on him. I was impressed with how quickly it worked, literally two seconds. Which is perfect because Mason is constantly on the go.
It was easy for me to use on myself as well. It wasn’t uncomfortable at all and slide nicely across our heads.
I want to point out that there is a difference between the temperature that is taken orally or rectally and the a Temporal Scanner. A Temporal scanner measures the arterial temperature which is the same temperature as the blood flowing from the heart which makes it more accurate of your body temperature!
I visited the FAQ section on the Exergen website and wanted to share this particular question with you because I found it interesting especially since ear temperature seems to be pretty standard in doctors offices and lately at home too.
Why is it more accurate than ear temperature?
A major reason ear thermometers are considered inaccurate by medical professionals is because the positioning of the probe in the ear canal is inconsistent, thus creating inconsistent readings and frequently missing fevers. The temporal artery thermometer scans the forehead area for the temporal artery and it is almost impossible to miss the artery during a scan. Also, the person whose temperature is being taken does not like something inserted in their ear, making good positioning even more difficult. The gentle scan across the forehead is comfortable and not objectionable. The TemporalScanner has been proven more accurate than ear thermometers by a Harvard Medical School study.
After I read that it seemed kind duh to me and I remember Mason squirming away from the ear thermometer almost every single time he’s had it taken that way.
I’m hoping we don’t have to use it for a long while but it will be great for our entire family especially once the new baby comes in March.
The Exergen Temporal Scanner can be purchased at many of your local retailers like Walmart, Babies R Us, Rite Aid, & Kroger. You can also purchase it on Amazon for $34.99.
