Prepping for a Disaster. Just in Case.

I’m not sure about you but B and I have been glued to the TV for the last couple of days watching coverage of Hurricane Issac. We can’t even imagine how scary it must be for everyone living in it’s path especially considering how close to the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina it is.

Luckily here in Virginia we’re not in the path of Hurricane Issac and even if we were going to get a piece of it it usually just means lots and lots of rain. In Virginia in general we don’t get bad weather. We’re in a nice area protected by mountains on both sides so very rarely do we get super bad weather in the Valley.

But just because it’s rare doesn’t mean it never happens!

2 1/2 years ago we had a crazy snow storm, we had more snow than NY that year, we also had a brand new baby boy at home!

Just recently we had a random wind storm that totally caught us all off guard. Which totally reminds me of my favorite commercial:

We’re a little bit of conspiracy theorists so it’s not like we haven’t thought of emergency survival kits before but following Hurricane Issac and seeing the damage it’s done in some areas and knowing that it could be WAY worse has made us think about it even more.

Recently we’ve started putting together food survival kits as well. We want to make sure that if we have a random crazy storm or some other sort of disaster and we lose power that we’re as prepared as we can be!

This is something that never, ever crossed my mind until we moved to North Carolina where there are (occasionally) hurricanes. When Irene came through last year, we had to scramble to buy extra water & food just in case! It’s good to be prepared ahead of time so you don’t have to do that. 🙂
