Want to know the quickest way to have a stinky house?
Being the only girl.
I’m surrounded by boys. Even my dog is a boy! My STINKY dog!
But the boys of this house aren’t the only reason our house has odors, a lot of the time it’s because of me. No, I don’t stink, but I cook at least two times a day sometimes it creates pleasant odors like when I make Lemon Cookies but other times the whole house smells like onions and garlic because I’m making enough tomato sauce to feed an army!
There are numerous ways to beat the smells and odors that come naturally from, well living your life. Lisa Beres, a healthy living expert and author has some tips for all of us that I would love to share with you!
Since my two main problems are my dog and my cooking I went straight to those tips.
Tip: For Pets, Lisa recommends bathing and grooming your pet weekly, and establishing pet free zones.
I LOVE the idea of bathing Cash every week, unfortunately B is the dog washer of the family and if I’m lucky he does it once a month. During the summer it drives me crazy because Cash gets sweatier and smellier! But also keep in mind that it depends on the type of dog that you have. Cash doesn’t have a lot of hair so grooming every week isn’t really necessary so one way we keep on top of dog smell is by washing the dog bed once a week. This has helped tremendously with odor!
Tip: For Cooking, Lisa recommends upgrading to the Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter by 3M
I love how easy this tip is, it’s as simple as upgrading a filter that you should already have.
So how exactly does the Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter get rid of odor?
It features carbon web technology that combines tiny pores of activated carbon with electrostatically charged fibers to help trap odors and gases from the air passing through the filter. It also helps maintain airflow in your heating/cooling system so you don’t have to worry about it working twice as hard just to help get some common household odors out of the house!
It doesn’t only get rid of odor though, it also helps reduce airborne allergens from passing through the filter. Like household dust (we all have that right!?), pollen, dust mite debris, mold spores and pet dander.
I especially love this feature because even though I’ve had animals my entire life I’ve seem to have developed an allergic reaction to them, it gets worse in the summer months because of all the grass and pollen that gets brought into the house by Cash.
The Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter retails for just $15.99 and can be purchased at select home centers, hardware and grocery stores. If you want to learn more about the Filtrete Odor Reduction Filter follow Filtrete on Facebook and twitter. Don’t forget to sign up for their eNewsletter that way you can get coupons, tips and filter change reminders!

Great tips! I was expecting those filters to be more expensive so that’s good to know! Cooking smells sometimes make me sick – like Steve sauteing a nasty onion last night!
