I’m pretty sure by the end of this post you’re going to make fun of me. But when the world comes to an end you’ll remember me and you’ll probably come and try to find me 😉
For the last year or so B and I have been very into getting ready for when the “end of the world”. And NO we don’t think it’ll be this December since that’s when the Mayan Calendar ends. But we do think that it’ll be sometime within our lifetime. We don’t know exactly HOW or WHEN but we want to be prepared either way. Our thinking is more along the lines of a huge natural disaster (or series of natural disasters) OR World War III breaking out.
I know, I know it sounds kind of crazy but really at the end of the day prepping for the end of the world as we know it isn’t that bad of an idea. First natural disasters can happen anywhere and at any time, if we have survival foods and water stored and weapons we’ll be in pretty good shape.
Two weeks ago National Geographic started airing Doomsday Preppers. It’s a brand new show that showcases different people every week. We go through how they think the end of the world as we know it will happen and how they’re preparing. Here’s a little clip that gives you an idea of what it’s all about!
We just watched one episode where the preppers talk about long term food storage products and B has not stopped talking about it! He wants to make sure that we have plenty of food storage items and food that has a longer than average shelf life. After watching that clip (and hearing what B has to say) I’m pretty positive you think we’re crazy, but I promise we’re really not. We’re just trying to be prepared. We don’t want to be stuck relying on other people if things go down. We want to be able to provide for our families and survive.
Besides starting a stock pile of food, we’ve also been trying to learn as much as possible. For example neither of us know how to garden but that’s going to be so important to survival if food supply is scare which it will be. B has been getting other things that will help with that as well. B jokes that it’s a good thing I’m having this baby at the birth center and then I’m reading so much about natural birth otherwise he’d have to deliver the babies and we all know what a nightmare that would be! I told him he needs to read up too, otherwise who’s going to deliver my babies?!
I digress. Yes prepping for the end of the world may be a little “out there” but if stock piling important things and having a plan just in case it does happen is crazy than YES I’m crazy, and you should be too!
