So I’m sure you guys are wondering where I’ve been at with the whole cloth diapering thing. While I’m still doing it (M is currently in his Bummis prefold and cover) I haven’t been doing it as much as I would like. See I’ve been traveling a lot and I’m so nervous about traveling with Cloth Diapers. Although I did make one attempt and it was really warm that day and I didn’t have a small wet bag only a plastic bag from the grocery store and well the stench was rancid by the time we got back home!
And you know what else I’m semi afraid of? The looks I’m going to get from ALL the people who use disposables and think that Cloth Diapering is gross because well to a certain extent it is! So I can’t blame them! My own Mother looks at me like I’m nuts although she chooses to keep her opinions to herself which if you know my Mother is quite the accomplishment! Love you Mom! So for those of you who cloth diaper while traveling, how do you do it? Or do you use disposables like me?
But he does look super cute in his Cloth Diapers when I put him in them don’t you think?

I was afraid to travel with cloth too, but I fell so in love with it that I never leave home without my cloth diapers. I sort of enjoy the looks people give you and illiciting their attention! Actually, the responses I get are generally positive ones, not "Ew, that's gross." People want to know more about it because the cloth diapers our kids wear are so different than what they think of. And most people think it's great!
If you think about it, what's more gross? Washing your baby's diapers and disposing of their poo in the toilet where the water will get purified, or putting it in a landfill where it will sit there, stinking forever?
Once you get a good wet bag, the stench won't be a problem either. That was one thing that really held me back from cloth diapering while traveling.
Good luck! 😀

Normally I wouldn't see a problem with it, but it's just as simple and easy to use the disposables. And yes… everything eventually disintegrates in the landfill after a few months so it's really not THAT big of a deal. Dog poop left in the grass dissolves after time… so will they 🙂
However… when working at the church (and I have heard the same for day cares) there were quite a few problems with Cloth Diapers. The main problem is the fact that people that don't use them are not sure what to do with them. On top of that and I think that it's rude to make someone else change a cloth diaper that's not used to it. In those cases I would suggest disposables… other than that, I think that using them at home and traveling with a wet bag is great.

We have been going out with them but thankfully she hasn't pooped while we were out. My wetbag is coming in the mail 🙂 I have fallen in love with this whole ordeal, I never thought I would. I love my pockets, love the Gdiapers I have (those are good to go out with) and the two flips I have as well. I now have enough to get through two days of diapering which is perfect. I also love her big bum and peoples reactions. It is all growing on me.

Okay, with #3 I was set on cloth diapers. My girlfriend gave me a bunch, and I got some for my baby shower. I think he *might* have worn one. Once. I'm so ashamed! I just couldn't figure it out, and I was frankly too tired to give it a go. So that fact you're doing it AT ALL is very impressive! Love the tummy time pics in the post above, by the way. I know what it's like to yell at the older two to get off the baby!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!!

Cloth diapers are easy and ABSOLUTELY no different than disposables except they save you money, keep chemicals away from baby skin and don't sit for 500 years in landfill. Yes, it takes that long for disposables to decompose- dog poop too would not dissovle in a week if it was wrapped in paper that is made with chemicals which slow the degenration process by several hundred years.
i am not sure what "Dubbs" means by saying "it's rude to make someone else change a cloth diaper that's not used to it". How is changing a cloth diaper rude but a disposbale is not rude?
It is exactly misconceptions like these that makes our world so enormously selfish and stress natural resources to depletion.

I've always cloth diapered while traveling! I agree with Beccalynn-I love the looks and comments. People are curious. I've never been ashamed to change my son out-even if he is messy. I love given opportunities to educate ppl on the new era of cloth diapering. Ppl have no clue-I didn't! Wetbags are great! Walmart.com has 2 Kushies Wetbags for around $10. With site-to-store you save on shipping, too! I've always been confident in my decision to cloth diaper and cloth wipe. I seriously sometimes think when I'm out and about and I see a baby in a disposable diaper how sad it is that their skin is exposed to all those chemicals. And I'm glad my son's isn't! So, get a wetbag, take a deep breath, and venture out in confidence using your cloth diapers! You've made such a great decision! And you're protecting you're baby's precious bum-go you! And if anyone glances at you sideways, just smile at them and kiss your baby. =0) Btw-I've been cloth diapering for 8 mos and I've never had a "ew gross" look or comment. To my face at least! But ultimately, do whatever you're most comfortable with. But I urge you to be different and cloth diaper on the go! Once you do I think you'll realize just how easy it really it!!

After almost 20 months of cloth diapering exclusively, prefolds and Bummis covers are still our trusty stand-bys. :o)
I recommend a wet bag with a zipper for travelling with cloth. I only have 1 and wish all of my wet bags had zippers!
If getting strange looks from other people makes you nervous, change him in your car. Then you can leave it in there too. I prefer to change in the car because then I don't have to worry about carrying extra stuff around and I know it is cleaner than the changing station! I have written several posts on travelling with cloth on my blog. There are a lot of great resources if you have questions or concerns. Don't give up! :o) Good luck on your journey!
